Cinema Americana
Cinema Americana is a feature documentary exploring the cultural importance of movie theaters across the United States. Through visits to historic cinemas, independent theaters, drive-ins, and emerging microcinemas, the film examines how these spaces continue to shape communities and preserve the shared experience of cinema.
The project will feature theaters including Vidiots (Los Angeles), the Texas Theater (Dallas), the Beacon Theater and Tasveer Gala (Seattle), the Mahoning Drive-In Theater (Pennsylvania), and Amherst Cinema (Massachusetts), with additional venues being added nationwide. The documentary will also include interviews with filmmakers, critics, and cultural commentators discussing the impact theaters have had on their work and careers.
Currently in development, Cinema Americana is seeking grant funding and other support. Upon completion, the filmmakers plan to pursue festival screenings, distribution opportunities, and a potential theatrical roadshow featuring participating theaters.
Arts Alive offers fiscal sponsorship to new arts organizations working their way towards independence as nonprofits and to artists exploring community-centered projects and creating work in the Monadnock region.
