NH Poet Laureate

Under the madness magazine

Arts Alive offers fiscal sponsorship to new arts organizations working their way towards independence as nonprofits and to artists exploring community-centered projects and creating work in the Monadnock region.

the big idea:

To help poets across the state increase their writing confidence, enjoyment, and success. One of the project’s current areas of focus is to provide teen editors leadership opportunities in the arts. The project is lead by Alexandria Peary, New Hampshire Poet Laureate through 2023.

With Arts Alive’s fiscal sponsorship, this project will publish 2-3 issues of Under the Madness Magazine, including at least 1 more international (or immigrant-focused) special issue; sponsor 3-5 judged contests in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction; host 5-7 online readings and workshops for youth writers from around the globe; and identify the student recipient of the Jack & Hannah McCarthy Scholarship.

Current Project:

Under the Madness Magazine is an international teen literary magazine (publishing poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction) begun by New Hampshire Poet Laureate (2019-2024) Alexandria Peary.

This magazine offers unique leadership opportunities to New Hampshire teens who have served in key editorial positions.

The magazine has published six issues and nearly 100 teen authors from around the world, including Austria, Canada, China, Colombia, England, Germany, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States. The magazine has run four special half issues focusing on teens from a particular region, including the Ukraine, Brazil, India, and Japan (Issue 7).
